Following last night’s directive from President Museveni to close Makerere, police has this morning ordered all students who sleep in halls of residence pack their belongings and leave immediately.
Currently, military police is heavily deployed every where in campus, with others beating students who seem to be delaying to leave as per the order.
Some students, after yesterdays strike, had spent the batter part of the night planning for a ‘bloody Wednesday’ to oppose this closure but the heavy police deployment at all halls of residence since last night couldn’t even let them mobilize.
By 11pm, halls’ custodians had been instructed to evacuate all students by and 9am this morning a message they passed to all students.
Some parents were seen picking up their sons at Livingstone hall at around 10pm.
As of today morning, resident students have packed up all their belongings and are leaving. Some are whisking their property to their friends’ rooms in hostels of Kikoni and kikumi Kikoni while others are using Boda Boda’s to transport their property home. Some parents have also come to pick their children.
The University is going to be closed till further notice to guarantee safety of persons and property after students turned violent yesterday destroying property worth millions in and around campus.
