Amidst the grief after the campus closure, the Rotaract club of Makerere University, yesterday went for community outreach and renovated Wandegeya Muslim Primary School.
Under the club’s project dubbed “Paint Them All”, the rotaractors painted the school’s walls including the ceilings and some blackboards, before cleaning around the school, something that left the staff and administration pleased by the job well done by these students.
The funds for buying the paint and other materials were entirely raised by the students themselves after they agreed to each contribute Shs 10,000.
“I feel very proud of my club. [ I’m] happy we were able to put smiles on pupils’ faces. Well, we find joy in serving community, This is great,” said Emmanuel Lukeera, the president of the club.
The event’s preparations started as early as at 10am when about 20 students from the club assembled at the school’s premises and changed into their painting attire, ready to serve the community as per their club’s objective.
The Rotaract Club of Makerere University is sponsored by the Rotary club of Kampala. To ensure realization of their objectives, they meet every Wednesday at staff canteen from 6pm -7pm. It is part of a global effort to bring peace and international understanding to the world through this year’s theme “Rotary Serving Humanity”.
