Makerere University is inviting applications for the position of Principal, College of Health Sciences.
The College of Health Sciences operates as a semi-autonomous academic unit, encompassing various Schools, Institutes, Departments, and Centers that conduct comprehensive professional training, teaching, outreach, and research in multiple health-related disciplines.
Job Description:
This is a senior leadership role within Makerere University, created to provide strategic leadership for the College. The Principal serves as the Chief Administrative, Academic, and Financial Officer of the College, and is accountable to the Vice Chancellor, University Senate, and University Council. The Principal is responsible for ensuring the promotion and maintenance of academic excellence, operational efficiency, and order within the College.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications:
- Hold a PhD or equivalent Doctorate in one of the disciplines offered at the College.
- Be at the level of at least an Associate Professor at the time of application.
- Have at least four (4) years of managerial experience, either as a Head of an Academic Department, Program Coordinator, or Research Project Manager within a University, Tertiary Institution, or recognized National Research Institution.
- Possess a minimum of six (6) years of teaching experience in a discipline offered by the College.
- For applicants at the rank of Associate Professor, they should be under the age of 61 at the time of application.
- For those at the rank of Professor, they should be under the age of 66 at the time of application.
- Demonstrable experience in networking, research, and resource mobilization is required. Applicants must provide evidence of resource mobilization and research work conducted within the last five years.
- Must be a citizen of Uganda.
Tenure:
The Principal will serve a four-year term.
