The office of the Academic Registrar at Makerere University has set Saturday April the 13th of 2019 as the date for the much dreaded pre-entry exam for admission into the prestigious law course at the university.
The exam that determines whether one is eligible to do law from Makerere has over the years been a hard nut to crack as students fail to fall within the less than 300 students they admit every year.
Minimum qualifications for the students to sit it are 13 points for Males at A-Level and 12 points for the Females regardless of the combination that one offered at senior six. However, those that sat senior six before 2013 are required to have 15 points for Males and 14 points for Females.
The diploma holders must posses at least a 2nd class from a recognisable institution.
The exam is also open for Mature Age Entry students that have sat and passed the mature age entry exams (for Bachelor of Laws) for the 2018/2019 or 2019/2020 academic years but government sponsorship is only available for those that applied for it in the 2019/2020 window. Degree holders must hold a degree from a recognisable university and attach a transcript on their application but shall however not be eligible for government sponsorship.
Application forms for all those intending to sit exam can be obtained in Room 505 of Senate Building at a non-refundable fee of shs 110,000 that includes six past papers for revision. This amount shall be paid in any branch of Stanbic, DFCU, UBA, Centenary or Post Bank after getting a reference number from Room 612 of Senate – at Makerere. The amount excludes bank charges.
The filled in application forms are to be returned before Friday 5th April, 2019.
The exam as usual will cover reading and comprehension skills, language skills, numerical skills and logic, general knowledge and analytical skills.
The Academic Registrar also communicated that the application form can be downloaded online at http://mak.ac.ug
