Resilient, determined, angry. This description sums up the state of mind of Makerere university students who seem hell-bent on voicing their grievances over the 60% tuition policy.
Early this morning Mitchell students arose, their voice ripe with agitation. At Lumumba, a pack of students imbibes tot packs bracing themselves for the MAK Strike; day 3.
The weather is cloudy down here. The drizzles are a disincentive to majority of the students. A few die hard students brave the rain and are manning the roads.
Lumumba hall, host to the most notorious students is under siege. A number of police men armed to the teeth have besieged the hall. A few soldiers have been seen.
Along the university streets, running battles between students and police trucks are the highlight. The security personnel are determined to stop any groupings. As it stands, isolated groups are on the loose.
The sing and chant the same old way.
Weeeewe
One way
Ddumba zeeeee
Blooode bloode, it’s gonna be bloode.
A few shots were heard this morning. At Lumumba, the gates have been barricaded. Lecturers are staying out of university. Police has setup a house arrest for all hall residents. Applying the Kasangati concept.
Meanwhile, Mitchell students accuse Lumumba students of desecrating Mitchell hall; apparently Lumumba students broke off the head of the rat statue at Mitchell. The rat is the face of Mitchell.
We shall keep you posted as events at MAK unfold.
