Edson Rugumayo, a student of Quantity Surveying at Makerere University has been elected Western region Youth MP. Rugumayo contested under the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party flag.
Mr. Rugumayo polled a total of 1419 votes accounting for against his close rival and independent Arnold Turwomwe who polled a paltry 402 votes. Former Makerere University guild President, Kato Paul failed to get a single vote in the youth elections.
Hailing from Ntoroko District, to the end of Tooro Region, Rugumayo traversed all districts in western Uganda courting representative youths on district councils to vote for him.
Rugumayo has been the District Youth Chairman of Ntoroko and the Secretary for International Relations on the Executive Committee of the National Youth Council (NYC).
