A second year journalism and communication student had disappeared from her home of residence in Kibuli, a Kampala suburb yesterday but is now found.
The 20-year-old Maria Immaculate Owechi had never spent a night out without communicating effectively with the parents. Close friends of hers said that she does not have a boyfriend and therefore chances were few that she was over at her boyfriend’s place.
On realizing that the where-abouts of their daughter were known to none, the parents opened up a file at the Makerere University Police Station after reporting to the Department of Journalism where she studies.
“She happened to have a discussion of Sociology yesterday but she did not turn up,” says Jackie Kirabo a discussion mate. She also did not attend her French lecture on Thursday, her phone was off which left all worried.
Maria is such a devoted girl to her academics and this was unusual of her considering the fact that she missed lectures. She usually endeavors to finish her chores very early while at home in order to make it to school on time. She is said to be living with her father and step mother together with her younger siblings since she is the first born.
It has however been confirmed by the department lecturer, Mr. John Baptist Imokola that she returned home last evening and claimed she has her own problems as the father reported. Naluwugge Sandra, a close friend to Maria says that of late Maria had been asking for bible quotations and verses that can actually lift someone up in times of distress.
Maria Owechi a staunch believer in Christ and she has been attending Watoto church services and also cell at Mary Stuart. She is a very active student and achieved good grades as her per last semester. She is a friendly and an out-going person. Her disappearance was and is still a shock to many. Campus students are therefore called upon to always have friends they can confide in in their respective classes as they are needed in such trying and unexpected moments.
