BADRU KATUMBA
At his young age of 25, Aaron Kayondo who prefers to be called a climate change activist managed to put up the first ever climate change arts festival at Makerere University. The event took place on Saturday 17, 2015 at the MUK freedom square.
Kayondo who has just completed his degree in Media Studies partnered with Milege Afrojazz Band, Kerere at Makerere, Story tellers (Groups of young passionate campus guys who believe in addressing their problems and those of the world through works of art like poetry, singing, and painting among others) and 350° Org to organize this expeditious event at the hill of the learned.
Aaron, with his Chris Brown like looks, noted that they choose to organize the climate change event by using arts because arts these are attractive to the youth and powerful when it comes to sending any sort of message, for example through music; perhaps that’s why Sevo also hired these #TubongaNawe Musicians to entertains him.
“Through arts, people share ideas, and get to learn in a stress free environment as compared to conferences where long hours are spent by speakers giving their PowerPoint presentations and asking questions as if it’s an exam (soo boring!!!)”, remarked Aaron. Graced by the presence of Miss Earth-Air and Miss Earth-Fire (Who by the way were a big center of attraction), the event was fun-packed with a variety of arts, poets, campus musicians, models, board games, paintings, all crying out loud in the name of climate change.
