As other families merry made and celebrated Christmas with joy and happiness, the same could not be said of Simon Ashaba’s family that woke up to the news of the passing on of one of their own on such a day.
Until then a third year student of Social Sciences at Makerere University and residing in Nkrumah Hall, Ashaba was kidnapped by unknown people who, according to reports from his family, first asked for money but later said his iPhone would be enough to stand for him.
The relieved family thought the nightmare had come to an end only for him to be dumped in Butabika where he was picked from by the family and taken to Kibuli Moslem Hospital where it was discovered he had been poisoned.
At 6:43 am on the wake of Christmas, he was declared dead.
The burial of the deceased will be on 27th in the western Uganda district of Rukungiri.
Ashaba had been an avid sports man at Makerere and represented his hall numerous times in various sports disciplines especially football.
His brother, Samson Rugongenza, also a student at the university described him as a hardworking and resilient soldier whom he regrets that he is going to live the rest of his life without.
