Grief and shock have gripped the Makerere University community following the tragic death of Mr. Ssengozi Muhammad Isa, a second-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Cytotechnology under the School of Biomedical Sciences in the College of Health Sciences (CHS).
According to an official statement issued by the Office of the Minister of Students’ Affairs on 29th October 2025, Ssengozi succumbed to injuries sustained in a road accident that occurred on Tuesday, 28th October 2025, at Bwaise Roundabout.
The statement, signed by Aniku Anthony, the 91st Minister for Students’ Affairs, revealed that the student was critically injured when a taxi rammed into a boda boda on which he was riding. He was rushed to Mulago Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
“It is with deep sorrow that I inform you of the untimely passing of a second-year student Mr. Ssengozi Muhammad Isa,” the letter read. “He died after sustaining critical injuries in a road crash at Bwaise Roundabout, where a taxi rammed into the boda boda rider who was carrying him.”

The late Ssengozi was laid to rest today, Wednesday, 29th October 2025, in Masaka District, according to Islamic burial rites.
The Guild leadership expressed heartfelt condolences to the deceased’s family, friends, and classmates, describing the tragedy as a devastating loss to the Makerere fraternity.
“During this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. May the Almighty grant them strength and comfort, and may his soul rest in eternal peace,” the statement added.
The Makerere community continues to mourn Ssengozi’s passing, with many students taking to social media to share tributes celebrating his life and academic dedication.
Authorities have not yet issued an official police statement on the incident, but students and road safety advocates have since renewed calls for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations around busy intersections like Bwaise Roundabout, which has been identified as a high-risk accident zone.
