This website reported an incident of mob justice that happened on Friday around Makerere University.
Like any ordinary relationship on campus, the couple is said to have been madly in love to an extent that the boy, only identified as Kakooza (now the deceased) bought for the girl a smartphone after hers got faulty. Sources tell Campus Bee that after breaking up, Kakooza, also known as Kats, demanded the girl to give back his phone- instead, the girl kept on sending him photos of her new found love through WhatsApp.
The heartbroken dude would later insist on asking for what rightly belonged to him [phone] back. The girl would then invite the deceased to Sunways Hostel (where she resides) for a “chat”.
“As fate would have it, Kakooza still asked for his phone politely but this girl was instead hellbent on showing Kats photos of her and the new catch kissing to make him jealous. This did not go well with the deceased who tried to fight her to grab his phone. As the girl resisted, he grabbed a knife and stabbed her, took his phone and tried to exit the hostel,” a source told this website.
The screams and wails made by the girl and the blood that was flowing out of her room compelled her neighbours to chase after the boy-they would later be joined by boda boda riders after hearing chants of ‘omubi omubi’ (thief, thief).
He was pounced and beaten with sticks, stones and until he breathed his last. The girl was rushed to hospital and is still in a critical condition.
Jay Jaxy Jally, a friend to the deceased says Kakooza was polite, non-violent student. “They call themselves gallant intellectuals and yet they murder fellow intellectuals. Doz Muk goons.
I knew, Kakooza way back from high school till now.
Bro had never been violent for the time we knew him.
Gone too soon, too young, in too much pain, the hits, the stones, the kicks….Who can ever forget you? Who will ever find the heart to forgive the stupid ones that stabbed death into your breathing heart?” Jay said.
Joan, also a friend to the deceased, on her Facebook timeline, reiterated his innocence; “The Kats i knew was good hearted ,social, jolly, and violet free we shall dearly miss y0u, ur fan, comedy and everything about you I have failed to take this in but surely i think we have to find out who brough death to him and shud be taken to courts of law to find out the truth we have lost an innocent soul just bse of the uncivilised ugandan may yr soul rest in peace dearest.”
We hope justice will prevail.
