There was a temporary scuffle in the Makerere University main hall yesterday morning when a student interrupted President Museveni’s address as he waved a placard during the Nelson Mandela Memorial Lecture and supposedly warning the President not to catalyse the ammendment of Art. 102 (b) of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda.

Martin Musiime, a third year law student at the university and Guild Representative of Mitchell hall in the 83rd guild council, carried a placard written on “DONT DARE TOUCH ART. 102 (B)”.
Almost instantly however, plain clothed security personnel rushed to his seat and took him backstage where they handed him over to the local police after some interrogation.

Musiime was first detained at the Makerere police post but was later transferred to the Wandegeya Police post where he is detained currently. The police allege and accuse him for the crime of “incitement of violence.”
President Museveni, who took time off to view clearly and observe what the young man was showcasing didnt make any particular comment(s) about the subject matter in question during his address at the said lecture.

Musiime is part of the Uganda Young Democrats (UYD) at Makerere and also heads the chapter’s caucus in the guild house.
