According to Manala Francis an eye witness who is a resident at Livingstone drive quarters, the thief was struggling to open a door that was not his raising suspicion.
“I saw the guy fumble with the door, he had a metal trying to open, on realising I had seen him, he decided to knock the door was locked. I called guys who were around and we were helped by Moers to arrest him. When he tried to resist, students beat him up,” Manala said.
The alleged thief was found in possession of different IDs which were not his.
After a search by police, he was found in possession of a student ID of a one Brian Ngabirano who is a 2nd year student of BRAM at East African School of Library and Information Sciences (EASLIS) in the College of Computing and Information Sciences (COCIS) at Makerere University.
The suspect was identified as Emmanuel Mubiru who works with Nsimbex Computer world as a technician.
Police has filed a case of Criminal trespass against him under SD REF: 18/14/05/2015.
According to Mr. John Katunguka, the Chairman LC1 of the area, the students need to be vigilant about this period.
“I was called from the work station about the thief, but I think sometimes students need to be vigilant as well as police to help curb down the criminals,” Said Katunguka.
Inspector Ayo Godfrey, the OC Makerere Police called on the students not to take laws in their hands.
“The suspect has been beaten and we have taken for treatment to Mulago and we shall bring him back after. I call upon all students to desist from taking the law in their hands,” Said Ayo
