Two students of Makerere University have been slapped with charges of impersonation after they masqueraded as officials from the Inspectorate of Government (IG) with aim to fleece money from Mr Bernard Oguro – the Principal Institute of Survey and Land Management (ISLM) in Entebbe.
It is said that the two students identified as Joseph Mutumba and Franklin Wanyama, under false pretense reached out to Ogutu from whom they intended to extort money, claiming that they would acquit him of the investigations from the IG’s Office.
It is further alleged that the occurrence took place last month (September) after which, Ogutu reported the matter on suspicion that he was being set up.
The students now face charges of impersonating public officials, and if found guilty are liable to three years imprisonment or a fine of shs.1.4 million, as provided by the Law.
In a similar incident in May this year, a student of Kabale University, Gaston Kakuru Tumusiime was arrested over alleged impersonation as a UPDF officer among other crimes through which he robbed over shs1.5 million from residents of Kabale district.
