Makerere University students want the American Embassy to make sure that Bobi Wine is among the artists to perform at a concert organised by the Mission to celebrate Dr Martin Luther King Jr.
The concert is meant to happen on 6th February at Makerere University’s freedom square, organized by the American Embassy in partnership with the Department of Performing Arts of Makerere University.
Martin Luther King Jr was an American activist and pastor who fought for the rights of black people in America in the 1950’s and 1960’s until his assassination on April 4, 1968.
In an online advertisement for this free concert, the musicians on the designed post are Sheebah Karungi, Rema Namakula, Navio, Sauti Ya Africa, Janzi and Seth Sharp from the USA.
Students claim that all these musicians do not have any song of freedom and have not been involved in any activity that is directed towards freedom and yet Bobi Wine has massive tunes of freedom.
“Martin Luther King Junior can’t be celebrated with musicians without a single song of freedom yet Bobi Wine has freedom songs and is not included. Let us be serious. Do you also fear Bosco? ” Went one of the comments on the American Embassy’s post.
However, it is alleged that these musicians are to mime the music that was sung by the American Revolutionary musicians.
