A group of Makerere University students, under their umbrella of Makerere University Rakai Students Association (MURSA) have stormed parliament in protest of recent comments made by Mityana Municipality legislator Francis Zaake against their area MPs Juliet Kinyamatama & Javira Ssemwanga (Buyamba County)
The students were seen today holding placards suggesting action on respect for diginity and a call to stop hate and abusive speech.
In his comments recently at an event held in jurisdiction of the Rakai legislators, Zaake uttered alleged demeaning statements, calling out Kinyamatama and the President of Uganda.
“We have a Nalumansi called Kinyamatama. That one is extremely dense and useless. Those are people who have kept us in slavery and Parliament has become useless. That’s why Parliament has turned into a talk show,” Zaake said.
With proof (in video format) presented before parliament recently, Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Tomas Tayebwa referred the matter to the Rules, Privileges and Disciplinary Committee chaired by legislator Abdu Katuntu (Bugweri County, Independent) and issued a 45-day ultimatum for the committee to report back with detailed findings.
