The Rwendeirwe led visitation committee has raised several concerns from the Makerere Students’ Guild after demanding for a head count in a letter dated 16th, January 2017 to all students in Makerere University.
Rt. Hon Stanley Okecho, the Prime Minister of the Makerere University Guild in his response said that exams are in a week’s time from the commencement of the exercise, there is therefore looming fear that the process may interfere with revision, in so far as it may be lengthy and time-consuming to some students who work and attend evening classes.
The letter which goes ahead to threaten all students who will miss the head count, was considered inconceivable since missing out on the exercise warrants anyone NOT A STUDENT and purge them from all University Records.
Rt. Hon Okecho went on to say that the head count has been set at a time where many activities are running, case in point are the UNSA elections, most colleges having tests, travels by students to attend conferences among others.
The Guild also cited out that some continuing students do not possess the required documents, including identity cards and admission letters that got lost due to unforeseen circumstance like theft and may not be in position to replace them in time due to the lengthy process as you very well know it.
According to the Guild Prime Minister therefore, a more inclusive and accommodating program for the head count is an inevitable one.
