Nsambya Babies Home on Saturday woke up to a surprise visit they’ll live to crave for. This was a charity outreach from MAK students under the umbrella ‘YOUNG CATHOLIC ACTION’ (YCA).
This group of over 30 students believed that though they are not financially stable, they could use their energy to extend a hand to their brothers and sisters at the Babies Home.
They thus engaged in community service as they cleaned the babies home from the inside out leaving no single trace of dirt, split clusters of firewood, polished shoes, cleaned laundry and shared the lightest of fun moments to make the kids smile. The aides at the Home were rendered jobless during this moment.
Love was in the air as these students fully engaged with the kids and in less than the first 10 minutes, they were calling each other by name. If there’s one unique thing about these 1-6 year old innocent souls that needs to be nurtured, it must be the talent of dancing!
These kids enjoyed the five hour company as they got lost in music and dance which the care takers exclaimed as one of the ways the kids express their excitement to visitors.
The outreach was a total reverse of its objectives that the Matron, Sister Maria Hellen Nanziri couldn’t hold back but award the students with a certificate. She appreciated every effort they made to the kids welfare including the donated utensils, clothes, drinks and eats.
This was a group of catholics and its lent season. I heard them say that every catholic is obliged to give to the poor, needy or the vulnerable during lent and yeah this was one of the best lent period’s charity act. “As the youth, we thought this would be one of the ways that we could converge together, know ourselves create a bond between us. We also wanted to show our value as youth that we can sacrifice even the little we have just to put a smile to a needy face. We have been successful and now we know our brothers and sisters at the Babies Home will not feel alone in the world anymore” said Enoch Muhanguzi the leader YCA.
