According to a statement released by Former Makerere University Guild aspirant Taliwaku Julian aka Vuvuzela, he will be leading a national youth club dubbed ‘Yellow Club” that will be recruiting and registering members while promoting President Museveni’s candidature as well as the NRM ideology through workshops that will be held countrywide.
The speaker of Yellow Club Derrick Kagurusi, revealed that they intend to start off with the youths in higher institutions of learning before rolling out the campaign to other avenues. Kagurusi added that the team will move in universities, tertiary institutes, as well as secondary schools.
“We want the youth to understand the ideology of the NRM and also appreciate its role in the development of this country,” said Kagurusi who also doubles as the Chairman of NRM University Students Association.
When we asked how they intend to neutralize the People Power effect that has won most university guild elections in the city, Kagurusi noted that they have a lot of activities planned to enable students develop a sense of belonging.
“To begin with, those candidates that won the Guild Elections were not People Power candidates. They were all Uganda Young Democrats who simply switched sides a few days to the polling day. NRM had not been so much involved in students’ politics. However, the image of the party has now greatly improved”, Kagurusi said.
He further noted that the Yellow Club activities will give NRM an upper hand amongst the student population in the highly anticipated 2021 general elections.
“Yellow Club will train students on a number of issues like what the party offers. We shall have activities like training in Kyankwanzi, delegates’ conference in Namboole, and countrywide conferences. We shall not act out of excitement but rather follow a strategy for 2021 elections. We want the students to develop a sense of belonging so that they are not carried away by excitement ”, he added.
In a bid to avoid shortage of funds, Kagurusi said that he has been patronizing with top NRM leaders like Capt Mike Mukula for smooth running of their activities.
