“So Ddumba has increased graduation fees. This guy must be dead confused or something. He surely doesn’t know who he is dealing with. Students around campus have always been complaining of missing marks, poor quality meals, dirty lavaratories, poor security in campus (considering there was even a recent death); and what does Ddumba do? Instead of dealing with the issues at hand, he is just piling more on the list…”
That has been the mood in the general students fraternity around Makerere University since Sunday 19, October at about 7:15 pm up to about Monday 20, October; at about 12:00pm. There had been a great feeling of disappointment among the students at the Ivory Tower about how their Vice Chancellor is managing their affairs.
Many think that the increment of the graduation fees from UGX 90.000 to UGX 220.000 is not only unreasonable but also unfair. That’s why many woke up to flood the freedom square despite the chilly weather to back the Red Gown Monday campaign. All the students want is a new, more competent Vice Chancellor, since the current one has proved that he really can’t handle. The strike continues today. As usual, we shall bring you live updates.
