After the management of Makerere University resolved that the institution be reopened on January 2, to allow for the completion of the first semester, students will not have time to breathe as they’ll break off for only one week.
“As management, we agreed to open the university on January 2, so as to compensate the lost time and allow students to sit for their exams. We also agreed that graduation takes place in early March. Students will break off for a one-week holiday before the second semester starts,” Mr Barnabas Nawangwe, the Deputy Vice Chancellor Finance and Administration said.
This comes after lecturers voted to suspend their strike to allow the visiting committee appointed by President Museveni to perform their work.
President Museveni closed Makerere University on November 2 after students went on strike demanding that lecturers who had earlier gone on strike demanding for nine months accrued arrears to resume teaching as they pursued their demands.
