The Vice Chancellor Makerere University, Professor Ddumba Ssentamu during an exclusive internview with Campus Bee on Thursday said that Makerere University students pay less tuition as compared to other universities in the region.
“Medicine should cost 15 million, per year, that’s our unit cost, humanities, should be between shs6-15m per year. Generally, tuition should be ranging from shs6-15m, science related courses should be costing up to shs15m, but then once you do that, the government will not allow,” Prof Ddumba told this reporter.
The highest course, he says, is medicine, which is roughly shs3m. “We are really constrained because we have to teach irrespective of financial limitations,” Prof Ddumba said.
Earlier this week, Uganda Christian University students demonstrated against hiking of tuition fees by 15%.
