A group of Makerere University students has taken the campus dining experience to new heights by developing a mobile app that is reshaping the way students access and enjoy their meals.
The team comprises of 4 students namely; Isaac Buyungo (Bsc. Agric Engineering), David Ssengaaga (Bsc. Mech Engineering), Martha Nabaggala (Bsc Agric Engineering), and Maxwell Kabateraine (Bsc. Agric Engineering).
The app, named “Campus Foods,” is gaining tract among the student community at Makerere for its user-friendly interface and its seamless integration of technology into the dining ecosystem.
The innovation of the team, Campus Foods was conceptualized as a solution aimed at transforming the way students access affordable meals from their favorite local restaurants on campus.
One of the standout features of Campus Foods is exclusive partnerships with renowned campus restaurants, ensuring a curated selection of meals.
Other features include affordable pricing i.e. negotiated discounts for students – making quality meals accessible to all and tech-convenience.
On how the app benefits the team, Kabateraine, who doubles as the Marketing Personnel told Campus Bee that: “Our innovation benefits the team through revenue sharing with partner restaurants and a percentage of each transaction.”
Inspired by the struggles students face in finding budget-friendly food options within the campus vicinity, this product involves 4 stakeholders in its network, all-round. The stakeholders include students (users), partner restaurants, delivery personnel, and the app development team.
So far, Kabateraine says, that feedback from the users, majorly students is promising, citing quality and affordability of the meals.
With the team’s effort to fine tune the app, they envision expanding beyond the campus level to other universities and potentially even branching out to nearby neighborhoods.
As university students continue to embrace innovation and technology, Kabateraine urges innovators within and outside Makerere to welcome and make use of feedback of the products.
“To fellow innovators in universities, remember that the best ideas solve real problems. Stay committed, collaborate effectively, and always be open to feedback and iteration. Your innovation can have a meaningful impact.” he says.
The application can be downloaded from Google Playstore.
