The sound of ‘Wee Wee’ has engulfed Makerere university as students have worn the infamous red gown to strike over the disappearance of faculty allowances for students that are not in third year. Previously all students irrespective of their year of study received faculty allowances from the university but for the past 2 years only third year students are the only ones entitled to the pay.
Students are grieved by the inconsistency of the university in allocating this money to students and intel reaching the strike organizers states that faculty allowance will be totally removed after this academic year. Ladies and gentlemen in red are definitely not going to let lose their money this time. Besides the success of last year’s strike to remove the exorbitant graduation fee increments has acted as motivation for students to always fight for their money says a self proclaimed intellectual in the strike.
The strike had gathered enough quorum to start a disrupt lectures as early as 9am today and since its in a period of guild campaigns, lots of rather idle students are in support.
