The digital revolution is changing how we live by the day. Among the changes it has brought is how university students are ‘positioning’ themselves. Over the past years, there has been mushrooming sex trade applications and websites in Uganda.
The latest in the Hive is that a group of Makerere University students have created an app dubbed “Kikoni Sure” where students from Makerere, UCU and MUBS meet up to exchange contacts and meet off the app.
Created by username on Google Play named “Kikoni Makerere App Developer”, the app seeks to bridge the gap between horny corporates with hungry and broke campus students. The app has profiles of students, their hostels and contacts. It also a enables a live chat for those online on the app.
One of the app users told Campus Bee; “I am on the app to see if any of my course mates are on it and not to necessarily take part in the so called sex trade…..and as an IT student, it is more like a learning platform for me in terms of what kind of apps can work for my fellow campus students.” It is actually interesting…”
Annette ( not real names) from Mubs says that her parents do not give her enough upkeep and that the app brings with it an opportunity to network with corporates and “get some cash while at it.”
Commenting on this app, a lecturer at Makerere University who preferred to give his opinion of the app on condition of anonymity said that the moral decadence in Ugandan youth, more-so campus students is hitting its all time low and urges parents to always talk to their students even while they’re at hostel.
We shall keep you posted.
