In a significant shift towards greater student involvement and empowerment, Makerere University’s Guild President, Vincent Nsamba Lubega, has announced a new approach to the review and selection of ministerial projects.
The decision comes in response to widespread concerns raised by the student community regarding the alignment of ministerial projects with their interests.
In a memo addressed to “Gallant Intellectuals,” Guild President Lubega acknowledges the feedback received from students, highlighting their unanimous call for a review of ministerial projects to better serve their interests.
Emphasizing the university’s commitment to consultative and servant leadership, Lubega recommends that ministers restructure their projects and invite student input in the selection process.
Under the new approach, students will have the opportunity to actively participate in the decision-making process through a consultation mechanism facilitated by Google Forms.
These forms will be made available from today until April 24th, 2024, allowing students to submit their proposals and preferences for future development projects.
Following the submission of student proposals, a cabinet meeting is scheduled for April 24th, 2024, where the submitted projects will be reviewed and considered for implementation.

Guild President Lubega assured students that their voices will be heard and their proposals given due consideration in the decision-making process.
He also encouraged students to actively engage in the process by using the provided links to identify the projects they believe will best serve their interests and contribute to the university’s development.
