Makerere Students vow to strike due to increased graduation fees

Just as teachers, lecturers, medics are striking, Makerere finalists and other students might not be left behind after the hiking of the graduation fee to which students are reacting with a slogan ‘No touching the graduation fee.”

Kizito Abasi Abbey, the Makerere University Information Minister, and GRC School of Social Sciences (2016-17) in a whatsapp message shared across various groups involving students, both finalists, and continuing students yesterday called upon them to raise their voices and hands against exploitation by Makerere University after Graduation fees hiked from the known Shs.110,000 to Shs.208,000.

In his message, he made it clear that as Prosecutors, medics, and teachers strike, the students should also fight for what is theirs. Referring to the increase in graduation fees as unfair, Abasi called upon finalists to fight for the repealing of the new increment just like the graduands of 2016 did.
