Just a week after the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kale Kayihura expressing his need to meet Makerere University student Samuel Mugarura aka Falcao, who made teargas, the latter now alleges that President Museveni wants him too.
While speaking to Campusbee today afternoon, Falcao said: “Yesterday I got calls from State House that the president wants to meet me. I don’t know when but I think soon.”
About three weeks back, Mugarura, a third year student of Chemistry, demonstrated how his locally made teargas works. Mugarura said his teargas is made from sugar, salt and other local ingredients that are less harmful than those contained in the teargas acquired from abroad.
However, just a day after the demonstration of this innovation, the Vice Chancellor of Makerere University, Prof John Ddumba-Ssentamu disowned him, saying “he is not a student of Makerere”.
Security agencies also accused the 23-year-old of attempting to distablise the security of the country, adding “he should go slow” or he seeks permission first so as he can be in position to make such weapons.
Last week, Mugarura wrote to Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda, informing him about his innovation and also seeking government’s support, morally and financially.
For now, Mugarura’s fate is still unknown.
