Makerere University has announced that each international student stuck in hostels and halls of residence will be given Shs 63,000 as upkeep for the remaining two weeks of the COVID-19 lockdown.
In a meeting of Makerere top management conducted online today, the administrators resolved to give each student the said amount to help them survive within the period remaining as they wait for normal activity to resume in areas of learning.
President Museveni announced an extension of three weeks to the initial lockdown to help the country health resources contain the deadly coronavirus. The extension meant that he also extended school and university reporting dates to yet to be identified timelines.
Makerere announced that the relief fund will cover international students in hostels, Livingstone and Africa Hall.
“At today’s online meeting of Top Management, it has been decided to give a relief package to International students in hostels and in Livingstone and Africa Halls of residence for the remaining two weeks of lockdown. Each of these students will receive UGX 63,000 for feeding.”
