The Director of Information and Publicity of the National Resistance Movement – Emmanuel Dombo left tweeters, especially students at Makerere University bitter after he made a stirring comment regarding the “quality” of learners in the present times.
Responding to NBS’ Simon Njala over the state of politics at Uganda’s premier institution, Mr Dombo revealed his take on the current quality of students at Makerere.
“An interaction with young undergraduates from MAK shows a remarkable decline in the quality of the students! They are incoherent when they talk, they use wrong English and grammar and there is lack of depth. They talk to show off but not to communicate!” he said.
The comment didn’t quite sit well with some netizens who came across it.
Reactions
The University’s guild president – Maseruka Robert had this to say: “Mr Dombo, you are a true representation of the Makerere student you claim to be so, such mediocrity always reflects in you at national level. It’s not surprising that you can’t acknowledge that the system you feed from is responsible for your claim of mediocrity in student spaces.”
Mr Mordecai Eyobu, a legal scholar and Director of Operations at Great Works and Talents Ministries had his take on Mr Dombo’s statements.
“I challenge you to an intellectual debate in your area of expertise. It seems that you have been on the wrong side of history for quite some time. I am unsure whether you are affiliated with Makerere, but regardless.”
