Makerere University has released the 2025 government sponsorship cut-off points, revealing the minimum entry scores required for students to secure admission under the highly competitive state-funded scheme.
Government sponsorship remains the most competitive admission category in Uganda’s public universities because it covers tuition and functional fees for successful applicants. Each year, only students with the highest Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) weighted scores qualify.
The newly released list shows that courses in Medicine, Law, Engineering, and Architecture continue to require some of the highest scores.
For example, Architecture recorded one of the highest cut-offs at 52.6, while Tourism and Travel Management also appeared among the most competitive programmes with 53.8 points for female applicants.
Meanwhile, programmes such as Business Administration, Commerce, and Statistics recorded comparatively lower cut-off points.
Below is a clean table summarizing selected government sponsorship cut-off points for 2025.

Why the Cut-Off Points Matter
Cut-off points represent the minimum weighted score of the last student admitted on government sponsorship in the previous admission cycle.
Because government slots are limited, competition is extremely high, particularly for programmes like Medicine, Engineering, Architecture, and Computer Science.
Education analysts say the release of the cut-offs helps students estimate their chances of securing government sponsorship and choose alternative programmes if their scores fall below the required threshold.
