Makerere University has announced dates for the 6th edition of the Kampala Geopolitics Conference(KGC), a conference that discusses current geopolitical questions and trends.
The sixth edition of the Kampala Geopolitics Conference is slated for October 17th and 18th at Makerere University.
This year, Makerere University (MAK) and Kondrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) have signed a memorandum of understanding partnering with the Embassy of France in Uganda, UN Women, Alliance Francaise Kampala and the Institut de Relations Internationales et Strategiques (IRIS).
The signing of the MOU was done on September 11th, 2023 at Rotary Peace Centre Board room, Frank Kalimuzo Central Teaching Facility.
Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe, Makerere’s vice chancellor said this year’s conference will fill Makerere students with hope and a renewed sense of responsibility to take charge of their future.
“It is our hope and prayer this year’s conference will fill our students and the youth with hope and a renewed sense of responsibility to take charge of their future,” he said.
Dr. Paulina Chiwangu, country head UN women said KGC is an opportunity for them to elevate voices and participation of women and girls.
“As UN women, elevating voice and participation of women and girls is a fundamental crosscutting outcome of our strategic plan globally and strategic note 2022-2025 for Uganda… Kampala Geopolitics is an excellent platform to bring these diverse voices and networks together to foster a culture of academic excellence, critical thinking,and inclusive policy making from the bottom up,”she said.
Mr. Nils Wormer, the KAS representative said there aim is to reach as many interested individuals as possible to discuss a broad spectrum of solutions through a high-quality debate on all these topics.
This year’s conference will host 12 panel discussions on various topics relating to global challenges, security, current African political developments, regional trends, culture and society.
