Makerere University council in an emergency meeting held on Friday July 15th, 2022 banned physical elections at the institution until further notice.
The decision follows a scuffle between NUP and FDC supporters to which a UCU student lost his life.
Ms Lorna Magara the chairperson Makerere University council suspended the guild elections on Thursday July 14th, 2022, and called for an emergency council meeting the next day.
In the emergency meeting, the council agreed to suspend all physical elections, suspend all guard forces, and appoint a committee to investigate Makerere University guild processes.
The council also resolved to discipline all individuals that were involved in the violent acts.
The chairperson Makerere University council had earlier suspended all guild electoral processes, the guild, interim government and senior common room (SCR).
Makerere University students had to go to the polls on Friday July 15th, 2022 to elect their next guild president.
However, following the scuffle the guild electoral process was suspended indefinitely.
