Professor Ezra Suruma the Chancellor at Makerere University has endorsed Architect Professor Barnabas Nawangwe for a second term as Vice Chancellor.
While speaking during day two of Makerere University’s 72nd graduation ceremony on Tuesday May 24th, 2022 at the freedom square, Professor Ezra Suruma said he prays Professor Nawangwe gets a second term as Vice Chancellor.
Professor Ezra said Nawangwe’s term as Vice Chancellor has been exceptional since his appointment in 2017.
“I wish to thank Vice Chancellor for his wonderful remarks and for all arrangements for this graduation ceremony that have been made under his leadership. Thank you very much Professor Nawangwe for your performance as vice chancellor since 2017 is truly exceptional. It is my humble prayer that you will be reappointed for a second term,” Professor Ezra said.
Professor Ezra Suruma further urged the graduates to emulate the love of their parents and guardians.
Professor Barnabas Nawangwe’s first term as Vice Chancellor is nearing its end. According to section 31(4) of the university and other tertiary institutions act, the vice chancellor is appointed on terms and conditions determined by the university council for five years and is eligible to reapportionment for one more term.
Professor Nawangwe who became Makerere University Vice Chancellor in September 2017 will mark the end of his five year term in September 2022.
Professor Nawangwe who has only served one term is therefore eligible for a second appointment and only time can tell if he will be reappointed as Makerere University’s Vice Chancellor.
