Dr. Josephine Ahikire an Associate Professor of Gender Studies at Makerere University and the Acting Principal of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHUSS) was awarded Honorary Professorship at the Nelson Mandela University, affiliated to the Centre for the Advancement of Non-Racialism and Democracy (CANRAD).
Her award was revealed by Prof. A Govindjee, Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research, Innovation and Internationalization at the Nelson Mandela University earlier this month. This title of Honorary Professor at the Nelson Mandela University in South Africa recognizes a level of distinction commensurate with the status of a Professor and is conferred on persons with an associative relationship with the University.
The achievement did not come as a surprise because she has accomplished intellectual academic work and knowledge application that has created a trans-formative impact on society, specifically in promoting the goals of a more democratic, and sustainable world putting more emphasis on democracy and gender in the African context.
For a number of years, Dr. Ahikire has published works on women, labour, culture among others that defined her as a true feminism theorist which has made her successful in her journey. In addition she has also been a member of the Uganda Women’s Movement and at the same time a member of regional bodies such as the Council for Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA).
Congratulations to Dr Ahikire from Campus Bee.
