Makerere University has come out to clear the air about breaking off for the holiday season.
A hoax tweet had made rounds on social media platforms misinforming stakeholders that the university will halt its proceedings between December 18, 2022 till January 5, 2023.
The university communication’s team has however trashed the furphy news addressing it as “fake.”
“Hello Makerere. This serves to inform you all that o the 18th of December, the university shall break off for season. We will reopen our gates for lectures and other activities on the 5th of January 2023. Merry Christmas and a prosperous new year,” the dummy tweet read.
The hearsay was fueled by the fact that the Makerere University, unlike in the previous years, will having a semester stretching through the December holidays.
It should be remembered that continuing students reported on Saturday 8th October 2022 with freshers reporting on Saturday 15th October 2022 for a 17-week’s semester that will conclude on Saturday 5th February 2023.
The university, thus, does not intent to grant a temporary leave to students in the disguise of the festive season.
The holiday makers will have to wait until Sunday 6th February 2023 for semester one to climax and rest for two weeks before Semester Two kick-starts on Sunday 19th February 2023.
