The proposal for land acquisition for this endeavor was presented by Jinja City authorities, marking the first step towards realizing this ambitious project.
On Thursday, May 2, 2024, His Worship the Mayor of Jinja City, Okocha Kasolo Peter, led a delegation comprising representatives from Jinja City Council, Northern Division Council, Government officials, the City Technical Leadership, Busoga Consortium, and Busoga Kingdom for a crucial discussion on the development.
During the meeting, Mayor Okocha Kasolo Peter highlighted the transformative potential of establishing Makerere University’s presence in Jinja City. He drew parallels to the historic offer of land by a visionary individual in Buganda, which eventually led to the establishment of Makerere’s main campus and its subsequent growth into a renowned institution of higher learning.
Mayor Kasolo emphasized the importance of seizing opportunities for development and progress, regardless of political affiliations. He underscored the collective commitment of the stakeholders present to championing the development agenda for Jinja City and ensuring its socio-economic advancement.
As a symbolic gesture of partnership and collaboration, Mayor Kasolo handed over the Busoga Development agenda to the Acting Vice Chancellor of Makerere University, Prof. Henry Alinaitwe, signifying the commitment of both parties to working together towards a shared vision of growth and prosperity.
