The local authorities and villagers of Wakivule in Luweero District (Central Uganda) are in the spotlight after a man identified as Julius Mpalanyi survived lynching and possible death in their locality on September 29th.
The man, now in custody, is a graduate of Bachelor of Agriculture and Rural Innovation (BARI) at Makerere University whom the locals accuse of engaging in homosexual acts and promoting them in their village.
Promotion of homosexuality is a very serious offense under the law and the society has been very cruel to individuals and/or groups that are engaging in the same across the country.
Mr Mpalanyi was whisked out of a meeting he was conducting on environmental conservation under Kikyusa Environmental & Farmer’s Association (KEFA). According to the angry locals, there was eye witness evidence provided by his close relative that he had homosexual relations with a one Kagugube on the night of September 28th.
As soon as he was taken out of the meeting, the now angry mob pounced on him and beat him almost lifeless.

“This man has been teaching our children homosexuality. We now have evidence that he has even been engaging in the act with some of our kids. It is a very disgusting act that we shall never allow here in Uganda. That is why I support my people for beating him. He doesn’t deserve to live.” Ssenyondo, one of the area local leaders told our reporter.
The local leaders affirm that Mpalanyi had been promoting and practicing the vice on various occasions in their locality while in the guise of doing community work under the Uganda Youth at risk Development Network (UYDNT) and KEFA.
He is currently in Police custody but no charges have been preferred on him yet.
The vice of homosexuality is very criticized in Ugandan societies with several students in universities such as Makerere University (his alma mata) succumbing to brutal torture and beatings on suspicion that they are gay.
