Makerere University students’ guild tribunal has dismissed a petition seeking to impeach the 90th guild president Lubega Vincent Nsamba on grounds that it is barred by time limitation and lacks substantial evidence.
The 90th tribunal chairperson said in a ruling on Monday that the claims made against the guild president were not supported by sufficient evidence and were largely speculative.
“After thoroughly examining the petition and considering the evidence presented, the Tribunal finds that it is both time-barred and lacking in substantiated grounds. The claims made against the Guild President were not supported by sufficient evidence and were found to be largely speculative and without merit,” the ruling reads in part.
He further says the petition is barred by limitation of time as per Article 84(2) of the Makerere University Guild constitution which states thus; ‘No election shall be held under this article if the residual term of office of the president is three months or less’.
The petitioner had sought an investigation into the conduct of the guild president who he accused of failing to fulfill his constitutional obligations as a guild president.
