Makerere University Guild leadership headed by the Prime Minister has capitalised on engagements with university anagement and the University Hospital on charges for COVID19 tests.
With the increasing symptoms related to the contagious virus, interventions have been made by the student leaders to encourage their subjects test more so as to get clarity regarding the spread of corona virus.
“It was resolved that COVID-19 tests for symptomatic students be completely free of charge. Students with covid-19 symptoms are therefore encouraged to go for testing at the University and Mulago Hospital,” Prime Minister Lotiang Eliyah noted in a statement.
For an effective mode of operation, the Guild cabinet continues to engage the student leadership at all hierarchies on safety of all students during their academic time within the University.
“As an extra layer of support to the Guild Ministry for Health and the entire Guild Leadership, students residing in Halls of Residence are encouraged to closely relate with the Hall Secretaries of Health as an additional support on immediate Health matters,” Hon Eliyah added.
Furthermore, cabinet has reportedly moved to build capacity of student leaders at levels as an extra support mechanism to the Guild Minister for Academic Affairs and the Committee of Academics Affairs on matters to ensure that colleges adopt the mode of examination that prioritizes the health safety of students and allow all students do their examination without any exclusion.
