In a bid to give students quality education, Makerere University has moved to implement a new payment method that will see lecturers earn according to their performance. Campus Bee has learnt that the Makerere University staff have embraced the ongoing headcount exercise which kicked off, Tuesday this week.
During the four-day headcount exercise, each staff is required to present their National Identity Card, Makerere University Identity card, and Appointment Letter to facilitate the process.
According to Dr. Davis Malowa Ndanyi, the Director Human Resource, the staff headcount is required to implement a new salary payment method that was authorized by the Appointments Board. The new payment method was expected to be implemented last year, according to Malowa.
In the new payment method, Makerere University staff will be paid according to their performance for the previous month. More details indicate that college principals and administrators are expected to submit lists for staff present on duty at the end of every month.
The payment method is also expected to humble striking lecturers who have been spending months without stepping foot in class. Despite being off campus, these lecturers would still earn their full salary.
