Makerere University has issued a general call for applications from Diploma holders seeking admission to undergraduate degree programmes under the Government Sponsorship Scheme for the 2026/2027 academic year.
In a notice published by the Office of the Academic Registrar, the university said the government-sponsored slots for Diploma holders will not exceed five percent of the total intake capacity across the listed degree programmes.
The call is strictly open to Diploma holders who meet the minimum academic requirements. Applicants must possess at least a Credit or Second Class Diploma, or its equivalent, in a relevant field from a recognised institution. In addition, applicants are required to have a Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) with at least five passes, or its equivalent, and a Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) with at least one Principal Pass and two Subsidiary Passes obtained at the same sitting.
Applicants are required to pay a non-refundable application fee of Shs55,000, excluding bank charges, using an ACMIS Pay Reference Number. Payments should be made to any bank authorised by the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) before submitting the system-generated application form.
Completed application forms must be submitted to the Admissions Office, Room 315, Level 3 of the Senate Building at Makerere University. Applicants are required to attach certified copies of their Diploma transcripts from the awarding institutions. The university emphasised that photocopies of certified copies will not be accepted and that incomplete application forms will not be processed.
The Academic Registrar further noted that applicants are personally responsible for verifying their academic documents with the awarding institutions. Each applicant must also attach a copy of their birth certificate to the application form.
Details of the specific Diploma qualifications required for each degree programme are contained in the official advert document released by the university.
The deadline for submission of system-generated application forms and certified academic documents is Friday, February 27, 2026.
Makerere University advised prospective applicants to adhere strictly to the application guidelines and timelines to avoid disqualification.
