Makerere University Justice Minister Bbosa Edwin Price and four other students have been granted bail by Buganda Road Court.
The students were arraigned before Buganda Road Court for bail application hearing on Wednesday May 11th, 2022 and granted a cash bail of Ug200,000 and a UGX 10 million non cash bail for their sureties.
The students who were detained last week during the ‘arrest prices’ protest were granted bail in order to sit for their ongoing examinations.
These (students) are expected to appear before court once in a fortnight to answer to charges of unlawful assembly with the first hearing slated for May 18th, 2022.
The five that were granted bail are Wafula Edrine, Bbosa Price, Kyeyune Charles, Tukunde Julius and Bonmus.
Counsel Geoffrey Tulyamusime, the lawyer of the accused, said he is pleased that court has released five of the accused students. Counsel Tulyamusime also revealed that court granted them three days from Wednesday May 11th to Friday May 13th as the bail application hearing dates for all the arrested students.
The students among whom are those from Makerere University, MUBS and Kyambogo University were arrested last week as they marched to parliament in protest of the skyrocketing prices of commodities in the country.
