A section of Makerere University students, MUBS and Kyambogo University that participated in the ‘arrest prices’ protest have been remanded to Luzira prison.
The students were arraigned before Buganda road court to answer to charges of unlawful assembly on Friday May 5th, 2022 and remanded to Luzira prison.
Among the remanded students is Bbosa Edwin Price the 87th justice and constitutional affairs minister plus some other Makerere students. These are at risk of missing their ongoing examinations following a court decision to remand them to Luzira prison.
The students are expected to appear again before court on May 18th, 2022, implying that they will miss their exams that are scheduled on days prior 18th May.
Makerere University students are currently doing the end of semester one academic year 2021/2022 examinations, the remand puts Makerere students at high risk of missing their exams.
The students on remand were arrested on May 5th 2022 as they marched to parliament, headed by NUP’s David Musiri, in protest of the skyrocketing prices of commodities in the country.
