In an advert released on Monday, September 24th, the Makerere University Academic Registrar, Alfred Namoah Masikye revealed that interested candidates for positions of Deputy Vice-chancellor (DVC) academic affairs and Deputy Vice-Chancellor finance and administration are supposed to submit applications by October 15th, 2018.
The outgoing Deputy Vice-Chancellor academic affairs Prof Ernest Okello Ogwang was appointed to occupy the office in October 2013, whose five-year term is supposed to end next month. On the other hand, Prof Bazeyo William is currently acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor finance and administration who assumed office in September last year.
According to the advert, interested candidates are required to be aged between 40-65 years, they must be PhD holders at the level of associate professor, working in an institution whose academic ranking is comparable to Makerere University.
More details indicate that applicants must be Ugandans of high integrity with a good track off the record.
Interested candidates are also required to submit a written statement of interest not exceeding 1000 words about their vision for a competitive 21st century university.
According to the laws governing Makerere University, the DVCs are appointed by the university senate, a body that will send one name for each position to the Vice-Chancellor (Prof Barnabas Nawangwe) for approval.
According to the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act, “each public university shall have not more than three deputy vice-chancellors who shall be appointed by the chancellor on the recommendation of the university senate with the approval of the university council.”
