Makerere University, together with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), has launched the youth and innovation expo 2023.
The expo was launched on April 25th marking the commencement of its pre-campaign that is expected to run till August 26th.
The youth and innovation expo 2023 will focus on fostering innovation for Uganda’s transformation development.
According to Mrs. Lorna Magara, Chairperson Makerere University Council, the expo is a platform to cause meaningful engagement between the youth and other innovators so they learn from their experience.
“The youth and Innovation Expo 2023 we are launching today is a platform to cause meaningful engagement between the youth and various actors to tap into their expertise and experience. In so doing, we aim to initiate viable forward and backward linkages that will facilitate the creation of jobs and foster enterpreneurship,”she said.
She added; “Together, we are committed to establishing and supporting an ecosystem so that you equip us with the necessary knowledge skills and entrepreneurial mindset to help them achieve their full potential. And in so doing reap that demographic data. We can leverage a huge population to turn this economy around to turn the economies of Africa around. We can do that through innovation and research.”
MTN Uganda, through its head of marketing Somdev Sen pledged its utmost support in ensuring that the youth and innovation expo is a success and of benefit to the Makerere students’ community.
The Youth and Innovation Expo is a two-day exhibition that will run from August 25th to 26th consisting a conference, a student fashion show, showcase of student innovations, exhibition from different colleges, food courts, MTN pulse activation among others.
The expo will be graced by deputy speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa as chief guest.
The youth and innovation expo 2023 is sponsored by MTN Uganda and Makerere Research and Innovation Fund (Mak-RIF) with House of DJs as implementing partners.
