The biggest expo at Makerere university is back -the Mitchellex bazaar. Held at Mitchell hall, the bazaar is aimed at giving freshers a wide range of affordable merchandise to add to their rooms before the start of the semester. If there is one thing we can tell a fresher, is that save your money ‘osirike’ for the biggest expo at the prestigious academic hill is back.
The Mitchellex bazaar that was halted in 2020 due to the outbreak of Covid-19 that ushered in the closure of academic institutions as measure to curb down its spread is back this year.
In a letter dated January 21, 2022, addressed to Mr. James Adupa the chairman Mitchell hall, the acting deputy vice chancellor Prof Henry Alinaitwe gave a green card to the resumption of the famous expo; the Mitchellex bazaar.
In order to attend this year’s freshers’ bazaar, one has to strictly observe the standard operating procedures. Besides, unlike the previous bazaars, activities shall end at 5pm each day and no one is expected to take liquor at the venue.
Last year’s freshers, those who joined in the 2020/2021 academic year, were not lucky enough to experience the MUK freshers’ bazaar. And like this year’s freshers, they too must be wondering what the Mitchellex bazaar is all about.
The Mitchellex bazaar is an expo offering commodities at cheaper prices with over 100 stalls of different commodities to pick from and a DJ at another corner playing your favourite jams. You will be sorry to miss this year’s edition.
In the past, the event could go wild in the night as students turned themselves into a nuisance after sipping beer that could go for as low as 1000 shillings. We are yet to see if this year’s bazaar will indeed end at 5pm as directed by the acting deputy vice chancellor.
