Makerere University administration has insisted that the blended mode of learning amongst given courses will continue for the current academic year despite recent threats from students to demonstrate/strike over the matter.
This development was revealed by the university’s vice chancellor Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe in a statement released yesterday, who justified the stand explaing that the resolution was made way before the semester began. The University, in that effect prepared for the blended learning, Prof Nawangwe said.
At a time when the country is trying its best to combat the Omicron variant infections, Prof. Nawangwe says, the blended learning is aimed at keeping the health of the students and staff at top priority.
The Professor also noted that the administration received reports of the planned move by a section of students to disrupt the normal operations of the university in protest of the learning mode. He urged students to desist from any violent or mis-conductive activities that could lead to serious disciplinary action.
The university Guild president – Ms Shamim Nambassa , in a press conference held two days ago, warned the University administration demanding full re-opening of the institution since a good number of students have been vaccinated against COVID-19 related infections.
“Students cannot access internet. With the tax that has been imposed on internet, its absurd that the university continues to have a staggered mode of learning. Lecturers wait for the university to be opened physically in order to teach.” she said.
