Makerere University has postponed the 2024 freshers ball due to lack of adequate funds, the minister of social affairs has announced.
Mutumba Robert, the 90th minister for social affairs announced the postponement on Tuesday in his letter addressed to the students fraternity.
“We regret to inform you that due to unforeseen delays in the release of funds allocated for projects under the Ministry of Social Affairs, we are unable to proceed with the Makerere University,” writes Mutumba.
The minister days the event will be rescheduled once funds are released from the university.
“We understand the importance of this event to you, as it marks a significant occasion in welcoming all new students to our vibrant community. We apologize for the inconvenience and disappointment this postponement may cause. Please rest assured that we remain committed to rescheduling the event as soon as funding is secured, and we will promptly communicate any updates,” he adds.
Makerere University freshers ball 2024 had been scheduled for Saturday, November 2, 2024. The ball is a social event meant to welcome first year students to the university and it is always highly anticipated.
With just a fortnight left to the start of the end of semester examinations, the minister has very limited time to pull off the event.
