Yesterday 16th April 2020, Makerere University research teams Led by the University Vice Chancellor Professor Barnabas Nawangwe presented their innovations aimed at fighting COVID-19 officially to the government of Uganda.
This was done in a meeting chaired by Rt. Hon. Ruhakana Rugunda the Prime Minister of the Republic of Uganda at the office of the Prime Minister in Kampala.
The teams presented a number of innovations aimed at fighting the spread of coronavirus and treating the victims. These included the EpiTent, Rapid Testing Kit, Low cost Ventilator done by the College of Health Sciences in conjunction with Kiira Motors.
“Makerere University research teams have presented to a meeting chaired by the Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Ruhakana Rugunda, the research and innovations being done to support the response to Coronavirus. The innovations include the rapid testing kit, the EpiTent and the Ventilator which is done jointly with Kiira Motors.” A public post by Prof Nawangwe reads.
It should also be recalled that recently Makerere University developed a dedicated coronavirus website whose intention was to fight misinformation surrounding the global pandemic.
By press time Uganda was having 55 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 20 recoveries and 0 deaths.
